South Korea selects Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice for the Oscars

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, South Korea has chosen No Other Choice as its submission for the 2026 Academy Awards. Directed by Park Chan-wook, the film recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival and has received widespread critical acclaim.

The story follows Bruno, the manager of a paper company, who loves his job but welcomes his dismissal with surprising optimism. However, after two years of searching for a similar position, his optimism turns into despair, and his wife Marlene takes on a second job. Determined to secure employment, Bruno decides to identify and kill his rival to become the sole candidate for a position. The film stars Lee Byung-hun (Squid Game) and Son Ye-jin (Crash Landing on You).

Neon, which distributed Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite—winner of four Academy Awards including Best Picture—will handle North American distribution for No Other Choice. Park’s Decision to Leave won the Best Director prize at Cannes in 2012 and was South Korea’s Oscar submission for Best International Feature, though it did not make the final shortlist.

No Other Choice will be released in South Korea on September 24.
